10/14/09 - Brooks 3 - St. Sebastian's 1 - Dads Game Review

Coach Dusty summed it up when he came across the field at the end of the game (with a huge smile on his face)... "WOW, now that was a soccer game!!  We played great today!!"  The Green sure did.  This was the most impressive game of the season.  Coming in, St. Sebastian's had not lost a game, had 2 players near the top of the ISL scoring race and were brimming with confidence.  Zach advised me "dad, they have a lot of good players".  Well, the first half was TOTALLY dominated by Brooks.  Nick hit the post after a beautiful give and go with Zach.  Zach dribbled into the box along the goal line and lost it at the last moment.  MANY opportunities turned away by the St. Sebastian's keeper.  Unfortunately, as has been the case in most games, the score was 0-0 at the half.

Second half started in much the same fashion.  Pressure by Brooks.  The ice was finally broken with Nick finally getting his first goal of the year.  Nice play by Zach beating a player and feeding the ball in the center of the box to Jon who touched it across to Nick.  Back of the net!!!  Less than 10 minutes later, Zach broke in on the right and fired a beautiful shot just inside the far post.  2-0 Brooks.  The parents were getting comfortable now but  I was hoping for that killer third goal.  Unfortunately, the third goal wasn't ours.  With 8 minutes to go a free kick from the side of the box found its way across and to the foot of a St. Sebastian's player.  2-1 now. St. Sebastians pressured hard with everyone up. Brooks was far to tentative, but a 3 on 2 break for Brooks, a feed to Nick and it's 3-1.

With under 2 minutes to go, a PK was awarded to St. Sebastian's.  Glen made a huge first save and while everyone watched, the shooter picked up the rebound and fired again.  Glen was there to block it.  The remaining minutes went on for what seemed like forever.  The final whistle came, followed by the smiles coming across the field!
