10/3/09 - Brooks 2 - Groton 2 - Official Game Review

Though the conditions were challenging, Groton and Brooks played 90 minutes that were notable for the level, intensity and fairness of play. Brooks got on the board first and early when Nick Vozella, who was impressive and dangerous throughout the match, sped by Groton’s backline only to be taken down in the box. Andres Burbank-Crump converted the PK even though Groton’s keeper George Bukawyn had a good chance at the save. The remainder of the half saw chances on both sides, though Brooks had the slightly better run of play. In the 40th minute, Will Stankiewicz unleashed a beautiful shot from beyond 25 yards to tie the game at 1-1. In the second half, the advantage shifted as Groton created multiple chances in on net; in the 58th minute, a corner led to a scramble in the box and William Goodenough finished from close range. Two minutes later, however, Brooks knotted the game again when Zach Vieira nodded home a perfectly executed deadball from the wing. The remaining half hour was exciting as both teams furiously pushed forward for the win, but both backlines held firm.
