Traffic in the Bridgewater area was awful and I arrived about 20 minutes late. Getting an update from the parents already there, it appeared that Brooks also arrived late. A very sleepy first 10 minutes and a gift goal to St. George found Brooks down early. The remaining 25 minutes of the half looked good. Lots of pressure on St. George's keeper. Captain Nick tied the score with about 10 minutes remaining in the half. Brooks had a couple of more opportunities to take the lead but the half ended tied.
The second half produced three one on one opportunities for Nick on the keeper but for the most part it appeared that Brooks had gotten back on the bus. Not much offense except for Nick tracking down two long over the top balls and a great individual effort to turn the left defender and cut in on goal. St. George had consistent pressure as the Brooks midfield continually turned the ball over. Backs would hold the St. George pressure, regain the ball, send it to the mid field only to have it come right back at them again.
More than a few mad scrambles in front of Glen had everyone holding their breath. It looked as though this one would end in a tie, when somehow in one of the net front scrambles, Glen pinned the ball against the post. The sideline ref waived his flag impatiently. After a conference with the main ref, St. George was awarded a goal. A good amount of arguing did nothing to change the call and resulted in a yellow for Matt. The final whistle blew and the long ride home was ahead. Zach has been a little under the weather over the past day or two and it showed today. He just wasn't himself. He tried to hustle, but you could see he was not 100%. Lots of rest and vitamin c is in order!!
