Brooks was without Sam & Bert for this game. Both were serving suspensions for receiving their third yellow card against BB&N. On top of that, Brooks lost a point in the standings due to their card count so Nobles was only 2 points back. A loss would have them fall behind Nobles. The wind was cold and biting down in Dedham and Brooks started this one slowly. Nobles pressed Brooks heavily early getting a couple of shots on Glen but gradually Brooks was able to turn momentum in their favor. After multiple opportunities Brooks finally broke through when Andres put a nice cross in from the left. It glanced off Zach's head over to Emerson who drilled it in for his first of the year. Thought Zach might get the assist on that one, but it went to Andres. Play went back and forth for the remainder of the half.
The second half started with a lot of pressure from Brooks but shots kept going wide or high. As expected Nobels began to press back on Brooks. But with every penetrating run the defense was able to recover and push them wide. Nobles did hit a crossbar. Finally with about 10 minutes to go, Zach took a clearing feed from Jon. He quickly turned the defender leaving him falling and grabbing for Zach's leg. Zach stepped over, and was in on a 2 on 1 with Nick. Nick pulled wide and the defender had to make a choice. Zach threw a nice fake at him. The defender bit and went for Nick expecting the pass. Zach then took it straight for the net and finished with great shot (a loud YEAH ZACH!! was heard from me). High fives from all the Brooks parents followed that one. We all knew that second one was big. In the last 10 minutes, Nick had three chances and each one went wide by the smallest of margins. The Friday night traffic home didn't seem so bad.
