10/7/09 - Brooks 1 - Thayer Academy 0 - Official Game Review

A ninetieth minute goal decided this outstanding match played in heavy winds. Thayer carried much of the play with the wind in the first half and was unlucky not to claim the lead. Two or three spectacular saves by Glen Martin denied the fleet Thayer strikers their just rewards. In the second stanza Brooks began to carry the play more as the wind aided their flank play. But there were superb chances at both ends throughout. The final four minutes saw five corner kicks for the home side with solid service and balls pinging around the Thayer goal. Dominic Quade and his backs stood tall to the onslaught and it certainly appeared a just draw was in order. With only twenty seconds left Matt Geremia served a lofted and dangerous ball into the box and sophomore Nick Potter sacrificed his body to get on the end of it in the midst of a melee. A bit of luck sent Thayer to its second straight heartbreaking loss. Zach Grady was a tower of strength for Thayer every time he touched the ball and was a joy to watch. Despite the conditions, both teams tried to play attractive soccer and good sportsmanship was in abundance.
