10/3/09 - Brooks 2 - Groton 2 - Dads Game Review

A rainy Saturday morning led to a misty afternoon match in Groton.  Early on, a great effort by Captain Nick led to a PK for Brooks.  Andreas calmly stepped up and took the shot.  The wet ball obviosuly didn't cooperate for either the shooter or the keeper.  The ball went straight to the keeper but luckily broke through his hands and rolled into the net.  Five minutes in, Brooks is up.  Nice start.  The next 35 minutes were well played by both squads.  Very entertaining, although at times frustrating for Brooks, play led up to a late goal by Groton to tie the score at the half.  The shot glanced off Glen Martin's hands and we were tied.  Early in the second half, Groton found the back of the net again.  Some shoddy defensive play turned the ball over inside the box and Groton took advantage.  About 10 minutes later, off a free kick from the left, Zach streaked in and emphatically drove a beautiful header into the twine.  The remainder of the game went back and forth, Groton probably getting the best opportunity to win when the Brooks defense and keeper mis-communicated and allowed a Groton player to slip beihind everyone with an open net and the ball.  Luckily he rolled the ball wide far left.  Fittingly the game ended 2-2.
